Celebrating failure
1) I have failed at two things this past semester that still haunt me even now. The first thing being trying to wake up for my 8:30 class and trying to catch the bus on time so I am not late to events or class, it is a specific bus I chose. The waking up is difficult since I only have to do it Monday and Wednesdays every week and every week I told myself that I am going to wake up early so I can be in class learning but to each time no avail. It is a problem now because I have a lot of free time and by the time I wake up at 1 in the afternoon half the day is gone and so is my will to be productive. The bus situation is really important to me because it is my main form of transportation and how I get to work. If I leave the house one minute behind my schedule it can mean the difference of me on the bus or me getting killed by mosquitos waiting 20 minutes for the next one.
2) I learned that I have a horrible sleep schedule and have had to rely on my canvas to stay on top of topic discussions and lectures online that I missed in class ( which is useful at the moment). If I fall behind It is my fault and my responsibility to catch up because if not it is my grade on the line. The bus situation has caused me to learn that the bus system majorly sucks and is unreliable when it comes to estimating arrival time. I have also learned to be prepared and have everything ready to go when I leave so I don't miss the bus; I leave 7 to 6 minutes early just as an extra measure of precaution and check the weather, since it can effect bus times along with taking in consideration the hour of my departure.
3.) Failure is important for the most part so one can learn and grow from that negative experience and eventually turn it into a positive one. If you try multiple times and never give up you are bound to achieve what ever goal you set up, whether by mistake or by practicing. For me, I try to be optimistic about my failures and not let it weight me down so much. My motto is "If it's meant to be, then it's meant to be" or/and "Everything happens for a reason"; these are obviously not original thoughts but they are guides to how I live my life and how it comforts me through it. I can take failure pretty hard sometimes since I am a delicate soul but I try not to show that too often or fight it when it shows. This class, and this minor, innovation, has taught me that failure is part of the plan for a product. If you don't fail then you are actually doing something wrong and that is okay, it is okay to fail. Without failures we wouldn't be able to find life successes.

Hi Jacelynn,
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your celebrating failure post. I just wanted to start by saying I completely relate to your struggles, I used to work late so waking up for classes has been a huge struggle and living far from campus and taking the bus is the worst. I am sure that the covid-19 situation has not helped your sleep schedule, it is so hard to keep a schedule when you don’t have a lot to do during the day. I totally agree with your philosophy about failing, if you aren’t failing you aren’t learning and if you aren’t learning you aren’t living.
