Growing social capital
To start off, I would like to remind the readers that my product is a system, preferably an app, that matches potential adopters with adoptees. They fill out a questionnaire about lifestyle, what type of pet are they looking for, temperament, things along those lines and gives them at least 5 matches.
On to the interviews.
A-1.) Bob Fisher is a father of 4 dogs and 1 child. He helped develop the matching breed quiz that can be found on animal planet.com. He works in relation to the animal planet company and has been for over 20 years. He loves animals so much that he has made it his career to know everything about them. He specializes in dogs, which did not come as a surprise because he clearly loves them that much.
2.) I would categorize him as the supplier of this industry, not the logistics or the technology but the information accuracy.
3.) Well finding him was hard but I figured that animal planet, ASPCA, The American kennel association and petfinder.com where probably my best bets in finding someone who helped make the quizzes on their website. I emailed animal planet and asked who made the quizzes and they thought it was strange that I asked. With a few minutes of persistence they told me it was a combined effort of Bob and Aaron Glastender, which he will be brought up next.
4.) I explained my product and how, in a way it was similar from the one he cofounded and he loved the idea. He gave me tips on how to gain people attention and how to deal with people if they don't like the results. He said that that was a big issue to look out for, because people take things too seriously sometimes, as if it were a command or personal attack when it is just a suggestion.
5.) He can help give information on the breeds of dogs in shelters. If you click the option to look into the breed(s) then his knowledge can come into play to help adopters better understand what they are getting into. This is just a suggestion of course.
B-1.) Aaron Glastender is a media and tech operator at animal planet; he made the quiz along side Bob fisher (above). He too has worked at the animal planet company for quite some time now, and has stayed because of the impact he feels he has in the animal community.
2.) I would say that Aaron is the dominant expert in regards to the tech industry and animals combined.
3.) I found Aaron the same way I found Bob, but he was harder to get in contact with because he is dealing with emails from home, the company, and civilians like myself who need technical support.
4.)I told him about how I spoke to Mr. Fisher and explained my idea which he also thought was a neat idea. The advice he gave me was to make sure that the quiz is simple, not hard understand, and that its on a secured website, because even online quizzes can be infected. He also mentioned to me that I should be aware of both negative and positive comments about the actual design because it took him at least ten tries to finally come to the present conclusion of what the quiz should include.
5.) He can aid me further in how to make the quiz or refer me to website that can make the quiz for me. He is a really busy man and he told me that if I want reliable, constant help that I need to find myself a good programmer/ technician I know, but that he is always available to email.
C-3.) This last person is an odd ball from the other two but she is the website and media regulator for faithful friends pet rescue. Her name is Andrea Riddick and she has been a part of faithful friends since she attended UF. She is in charge of Facebook and Instagram pages for faithful friends in regard to notifications and event planning.
2.) I put her in marketing category
3.) I volunteer with Faithful friends and rehoming so it wasn't hard t contact her, especially since the pandemic she is constantly working with foster advisors to get all the animals into temporary or/and permeant homes.
4,) I spoke to her about my product idea and she liked it but definitely prefers the way that faithful friends conduct adopts more. She did mention that it would world really well nation wide or for shelters with larger animal capacity since faithful friends is pretty small nd well organized. She said that if I wanted to make money off my product to allow ads to pop up and if I wanted attention ( in general) for it then consistency is key. She basically said go big or go home; There is never too much exposure a project or idea can get, even if they are redundant they still make an impression on people. It makes them remember and if you add cute picture or animations and bright colors that will catch people attention.
5.) She said that if I need more advise that I can always contact her and if I ever would need help that she is willing to be there. She wants me to try it out first without her so that I gain first hand experience and learn from that.
Reflection:
This assignment was slightly more difficult in regards to finding contacts especially since the Corona virus is running ramped at the moment, but once I found my three people it was smooth sailing from there. I think I learned or it solidified that people opinions matter in this case, I know they matter in the business world a lot but compromise is truly how people succeed; not on core ideas but definitely the smaller detailed ones. I also learned to not be that intimidated by adults I don't know because I to am an adult so it is just two adults having a conversation, no Biggy.
