Oppurtunity Identification
1.) The opportunity that may exist at the current moment is more jobs being available to Americans due to Chinas outbreak of the coronavirus. Secretary Wilbur Ross predicts that American businesses might need to reconsider their current manufacturing location, since the Coronavirus has become an issues of public safety and emergency. Though there are other countries such as India, Taiwan, Bangladesh, ect that American businesses can send their products to be manufactured a huge portion does come from China; probably due to the resources there being cheaper than the other countries listed above. With Trumps ideals of bringing more jobs in the country by reducing outsourcing and the Coronavirus devastating Chinas work force, his ideals may become a reality for some American corporations. I think this opportunity is more difficult to exploit but not impossible since some companies already partake in this ideal. On one hand bring home the jobs due to sanitation and health regulations would allow for a higher economy but on the other hand business who decide to act on this will have to pay higher wages and material costs when they outsourced to China. It will cost these businesses money either way, but moving the manufacturing work is easier outside the US than in it.

-Realistically, outsourcing to other countries has been a prevalent thing since the 1970's. The majority of economists will agree that outsourcing is a better deal both financially and for our economy than keeping manufacturing in the US. My perspective is not a new one and neither are the perspectives of people like Trump. I just know that for a fact that outsourcing is more efficient than keeping the factories here.
2.) In California, a bill is being created and then voted on to build housing near transit stations to help resolve the housing crisis. California is a densely populated state and enough land to house everyone, but laws that protect these lands and citizens who don't support changing the structure of California's community. Homelessness is an additional problem that California senators are trying to solve. Housing is expensive, so making more houses would make housing more affordable but also help reduce Carbon footprint and give greater transportation accessibility to workers. I think California's residents have the biggest chance for positive opportunity not only financially but also for the states civilian population (work force). Well, this bill has been proposed three times already and rejected every time so I think that it will be extremely hard to make this opportunity possible. The communities in California have spent years building around their current location whether its based on race or class that changing that , to them, is seen as a threat to their community.
- I think the "why" has to do with the fact that I am an outsider from this location. These are from a local news stand point. I see an opportunity because I see a clear solution to a very clear problem, but the people have different priorates than mine or their local government.
3.) New York created a law that prevents citizenship status from being seen through drivers license recipients when applying for the license. This is to protect undocumented immigrants from ICE and immigration officers from getting caught and kicked out of the county. With current immigration laws being in the lime light since Trumps presidency, news about detention centers and separating children from their families have been a major impact on minority security. This law in itself is an opportunity to protect immigrants and keep them under the radar, allowing them to build a life in this country without worrying about security. Undocumented immigrants and families of these people have already greatly benefited due to this law making it harder for Homeland security and immigration officers from successfully tracking down and detaining these immigrants. I think for other states, especially conservative ones, this law will be close to impossible to recreate. Now that this law has reached national attention, the government is already looking for ways to loophole around this law.
- like the New York law makers, I view this article and action as a positive step rather than a threat to national security. How our current administration has handled illegal and undocumented immigrants will go down in history as one of the worst in American history. I can sympathize with these people because I come from a family of immigrants both legal and illegal. Everyone should be treated with respect and given a chance to thrive in this great country without worrying about their safety or their families.
4.) Since the US attacked and killed a formative leader in Iran on January 3rd, relations with the country have been unstable. The US has implemented sanctions against trading with Iran cause Iran's economy and market to collapse on itself. It relies on bank loans and unfortunately for Iran joblessness, homelessness and inflation have increased since December. In this New York Times article it states that other countries such as Europe and France have insisted on Iran joining the Nuclear weapons deal, to prevent Iran from having too much power over other countries. The opportunity is for Iran with their oil reserves if they can make a deal with the US or other countries without waging war. The Iranian people and state would benefit from this action, but the likely hood of it happening, at least in regards with the US, is slime at the moment. Tensions are still too high for comfort and corruption in Iran make it difficult for any future trading opportunities.
- Middle east and US conflicts have been an issue since 9/11, understandably. I can recognize that both parties of this conflict have suffered one way or another and have faced tremendous consequences from it. I hope, for Iran's people, that their government can show a bit of leniency so that their country and economy can bounce back. Will it happen... It is too early to tell but I hope that no more blood shed needs to happen for peace to be obtained. This opportunity, though there, is not as clean cut as some of the other articles; it is complicated.
